TERMINAL SALTO x JAVIER VILLASUSO _2019_61.jpg

Bus terminal, Salto.

URUGUAY

Iconic work that combines functional simplicity, with a suitable urban location, an exceptional roof response and the treatment of local stone in the walls that gives it a unique character. The work takes advantage of the change in levels of the terrain to serve the public on one side and the buses on the other, with a single deck. 1,300 m2. The huge self-supporting vaulted roof of about 7 meters of light, is supported on a single row of pillars, with side and side overhangs of 13.5 meters. This gesture is of exceptional value. He is part of the professional duo Minutti-Dieste in Salto.

Ayui Pavilion.

URUGUAY

Tourist inn on the banks of the Uruguay River, made with field brick rich in colors due to differences in burning. The distribution of the load on the metal supports of the enclosure creates a visual illusion of great lightness. The conical roof is completely free inside, while the service areas, another 150 m2, are covered with a flat roof supported by exposed stone load-bearing walls, serving as the accessible terrace roof. This body houses the kitchen, storage and sanitary services, as well as a loading and unloading yard. Conical cover self-compressed for its ruffles. Diameter 21 meters, 18 m internal diameter, with an external corridor 3 wide and 3 m high that surrounds it for two thirds of its development. (348 m2). It rests on metal pillars that make up the glass enclosure, anchored on its back side to load-bearing walls.

"Seagull"

URUGUAY

Exceptional piece of structural lightness that as a fuel distribution point was part of the Barbiere-Leggire fuel service center. The original use of the building is maintained, a service station, made up of an office block and two-level services. With self-supporting vaults as a cover. Originally, the gasoline service channel featured an extraordinary umbrella of don half vaults supported by a single column, which protected a service road in each direction. Due to the risk of demolition, a group of citizens, with the technical support of engineers and architects familiar with Dieste's work, proposed its transfer to a road intersection at the southern entrance to the city, a process in itself worthy of an engineering calculation study. as mobilization of large structures. Thus, a functional object, despised by some marketers with great ignorance about the value of the property as a whole, ended up becoming a “work of art” in homage to Dieste. This brought enormous social recognition to the mutilated object, and it even became one of the tourist attractions of the city of Salto.

Dayman hot springs

URUGUAY

It is part of the important set of works built in Salto in collaboration with Architect Néstor Minutti. It has 1,500 meters of covered area, by two long vaulted sets that in the shape of a "T" give a response to the exterior with a greater height, intended for shops, and a lower one, with a corridor supported by columns, intended for changing rooms and services and open to the pools and showers of the hot springs. The treatment of the walls with exposed rustic stone clearly identifies it with other proposals such as the Parador Ayuí or the bus terminal.
